Liverpool Netball hosting State Titles

17 Jun, 2009 09:10 AM
LIVERPOOL City Netball Association is hosting the annual State Age Titles at Woodward Park next month.

Netball NSW says 100 Association representative teams are playing.

The official draw is released on July 6.

The three-day event is between July 11 and July 13.

Netball NSW chose Woodward Park as the venue in September, 2007, when the 32-court complex was officially opened.

A thrilled Liverpool secretary Estelle Lawler said they will have 12, 13, 14 and 15-year-olds playing.

She said it's a great honour for the local netballers to play on their home courts.

Liverpool netball has always been a high-profile sport.

The LCNA began playing at Woodward Park in 1968.

Estelle Lawler said Liverpool Council had been supportive not only in building the new complex two years ago but assisting with State title preparations.

Netball NSW estimate more than 4000 people will be in our city comprising players, officials and spectators.

While on netball, Bringelly Sports Club's four teams all won their games on Saturday in the Camden association.

The club's 11B Roses, the Wildcats' fourth division cadets, Bringelly Green sixth division and senior teams were victorious.

On the rugby union fields Liverpool Bulls got rolled in first and second grades against St George at Carss Park on Saturday.

Firsts lost 43-22 and seconds went down 19-12.

The Bulls hope to charge back to the winner's list when they tackle Macquarie Uni at Macquarie Uni on Saturday.

Liverpool's lone sporting team in a national competition, the Sydney Ice Dogs got frost-bitten in the national ice hockey league during the weekend.

They lost 6-3 to Canberra in Canberra on Saturday then thawed losing 6-4 to Newcastle at Liverpool Catholic Club on Sunday night.

The Ice Dogs go to the Gold Coast this weekend for a double header against the Gold Coast Bluetongues.

In the NRL, the Tigers have a new chief executive, former Balmain fullback Stephen Humphreys, 49.

He starts mid-July with Humphreys currently working as managing director of New Zealand tourism firm the Stella Group.
