Councillors voted 6-4 to defeat a rescission motion against the original decision, on Monday night.

The motion, put by councillors Gary Lucas, Peter Harle and Tony Hadchiti, proposed that the construction of the school be approved, but the council lobby the RTA to allow the front entrance to be on Hoxton Park Road. A few other changes are sought.

Councillors Mazhar Hadid, Gil Gillani, Anne Stanley, Jim McGoldrick, Ali Karnib and Mayor Wendy Waller voted against the rescission motion.

Crs Harle, Lucas, Hadchiti and Cr Nadia Napoletano supported it. Cr Ned Mannoun was not present.

The motion was defeated and the June 15 decision was upheld.

Cr Napoletano said the applicant would not lose anything if the rescission motion were carried.

``If the RTA refused to allow an entrance to be located on the road, the school will still go ahead, that's what the motion stated,'' Cr Napoletano said.

Cr Hadid said he had spoken with Malek Fahd Islamic School representatives and they said they would be happy to sit down with the residents and discuss any problems.

Cr Hadid became upset during his presentation, saying there was no excuse for anyone to be threatening councillors or council staff.

Cr Lucas urged Cr Hadid to not get too emotional. He said threatening calls and emails had nothing to do with the decision.

Ms Waller said while it had nothing to do with the matter at hand, the point about the threats was a valid one and needed to be said.

Planning director Adam Coburn, who was threatened last week, was absent from the meeting.

Liverpool Police crime manager Senior Sergeant Andy Richmond confirmed that Mr Coburn had received several threatening text messages last week, after his car was damaged the week before. He said officers were investigating.
