THE health benefits linked with red wine are well known, but white wine lovers may also be able to celebrate with their favourite drops.
Red wine has long been associated with fighting cancer and cardiovascular disease.
It also creates good cholesterol levels.
Sydney GP Philip Norrie found the antioxidants in wine so beneficial that he established his own wine label, The Wine Doctor.
Dr Norrie recently released a red and a white wine which both contain up to 100times the amount of the powerful antioxidant Resveratrol that is found naturally in wine.
One of the main ways the body ages or degenerates is by oxidation, the same process that causes rusting.
The main antioxidants in wine are Epicatechin, Quercetin and more importantly, the polyphenol Resveratrol.
These potent antioxidants can reduce oxidation by up to 100percent. The normal Resveratrol content in wine is one to twomilligrams a litre in white wine and four to sixmilligrams in red wine.
The Resveratrol content of both The Wine Doctor wines has been boosted to 100milligrams a litre, which gives white wine the same content level as the red.
Many other foods and drinks contain antioxidants.
Spinach and corn contain lutein, which boosts the health of the eyes, and dark chocolate contains antioxidants called flavonoids, which can help to improve blood flow.
