JOE Ferreri has seen Kemps Creek develop and grow for the past 23 years.
``Many years ago, there weren't so many houses here,'' Mr Ferreri said. ``But we need to keep up with the developments, as the roads can't cope with the increasing traffic.''
Mr Ferreri, who's a semi-retired truck driver, has always been an active campaigner for the improvement of Kemps Creek and has lobbied the council and government departments about updating the roads.
He was successful in having the Devonshire Road speed limit lowered from 80km/h to 70km/h, but wants it down to 60.
There have been fatal accidents in Devonshire Road and Mr Ferreri is still campaigning hard for road safety.
He has worked very hard at maintaining his own property.
``When something is being delivered to us, I just say the neat house on the corner and they know where it is,'' he said.
``Where I came from, when you learn to walk, you learn to work.''
Mr Ferreri was born in Italy and bought his seven-acre property because the open space reminded him of his home town.
But it is the friendly neighbours, rural living and the variety of things to do that have kept Mr Ferreri and his wife in the area for so long.
They bred sheep on their land for about 20 years.
``We had about 50-odd sheep at one time,'' he said.
``The area wasn't really the right place for the sheep, who were getting a bit sick.''
The Ferreris now have cows in their paddock.
