It'll be hot-rod paradise for true believers

PANELBEATING shop owner Angelo Camilleri finds a magic in restoring old cars.

At his Custom Restorations business, in Leumeah, he specialises in 1950s machines.

``And they're just beautiful,'' he said.

He will share his love of the old at the second annual Rod Stock Car Meet at the Hubertus Country Club on Sunday, from 6am to 6pm, when there will be Chevy and Ford hot-rods, motorbikes, antique cars and tractors and vintage caravans on show.

``Anything from the '50s will be on display as well a few things out of the ordinary,'' he said.

``A lot of them are a part of history and part of Australian history.

``It's great that people are keeping them alive.

``Something old that's been restored means a lot of tender love and care has been put into it.

``You can show off your pride and joy [at the show] and people can appreciate what you created and there is nothing better than that.''

Mr Camilleri said that last year there were more than 300 cars on show and that on Sunday there will be something for everyone including raffles, a model boat display, amusements and entertainment from the band Cool Change playing '50s tunes awards for the best 10 cars, and a women's choice award judged by ladies at the show.

Mr Camilleri said the event is family-oriented and he wants to get more women interested in cars.

``My three daughters are into it,'' he said. ``The youngest one is working as a panelbeater for me. It's just a great hobby for everyone.''

Red Stokes, who helped organise the event, said he took 12 months to rebuild a 1923 Ford T Bucket which has owned for 27 years, for the show.
