High hopes for dancers

28 Oct, 2009 04:00 AM
MIKE Dorrington and his wife Keira want to give all children in their dance class the chance to perform, both on the local stage and the world stage.

The owners and principals of Dance NRG in Austral are trying to get their performance group over to the United States in 2011.

With help from the parents' committee, they are holding a Hi-Energy festival this Saturday from 10am to 4pm to raise some of the funds for the trip. The event will be held at the Hubertus Country Club in Luddenham and there will be rides, fairy floss, market stalls, face painting and air-brush tattoos, dance performances, showbags, barbecue and a classic Chevy car show.

There will also be lots of appliances to win.

The school is hoping to raise $30,000 towards the $120,000 target.

``Since April we've raised about $15,000 by doing things like raffles, guessing competitions, tupperware parties, discos and cake stalls but we've never done anything like this,'' Mr Dorrington said.

The school teaches jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, break dancing and gymnastics. Its performance group has 40 students who will be travelling to the US.

Details: Hubertus Country Club, 205 Adams Road, Luddenham.
