Breastfeeding declines in south-west

20 Aug, 2008 09:26 AM
WITH breastfeeding rates dropping in Liverpool, the Area Health Service nutrition program manager, Michelle Nolan, said it was important mothers knew the benefits it provided for their children. ``Rates of breastfeeding in south-west Sydney are declining substantially,'' she said. ``The health benefits of breastfeeding for babies include improved cognitive skills, balance, co-ordination, speech and eyesight. Breastfeeding also gives a baby all of his or her nutritional needs.''

The Area Health Service offers breastfeeding support services which both expectant and new mothers are encouraged to use.
